Comparing the 2024 Nissan Rogue vs Toyota RAV4
The compact crossover SUV market has exploded in the last ten years, with folks valuing the versatility between commuting, vacationing, and family-safe transportation in a cost-friendly chassis. There have been all kinds of entrants into this sphere, but perhaps the competition between the 2024 Nissan Rogue and 2024 Toyota RAV4 is the most fierce, with Nissan and Toyota determined to differentiate themselves in this crowded landscape. But with consumer preferences in the compact SUV market varying between individuals, which of these vehicles checks the most boxes for the most people? We’ll look at both models in this article so that you can better understand what differentiates these two SUVs and, if you’re looking for a new 2024 Nissan Rogue for sale or a new RAV4, you can make the most informed decision. Let’s get started!
Design Differences
The Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Rogue underwent some changes for the 2024 model year. The Nissan, in particular, has seen some excellent design upgrades that make it more stylish and sophisticated overall. On the outside of the Rogue, drivers will find new front and rear fascias and Nissan’s unique V-motion grille that adds a lot of character and a bold stance. Multiple new wheel designs are also available, making it easier than ever to customize a new Rogue to match your personal styling. You can even choose a color pallet on the exterior that pairs with a black roof for added depth and interest.
Inside the Rogue underwent a luxury upgrade as well. New color options and a unique and polished chestnut leather upholstery add an extra bit of extravagance to an already impressive interior. Door panels, consoles, and dashboards have also been updated to make them look and feel modern. Overall, the finesse and attention to detail the designers at Nissan put into the 2024 Nissan Rogue should be applauded. One look at this compact SUV has us convinced it must be at a much higher price point than it is.
Some subtle updates have also been made to the RAV4 this year. In general, Toyota’s vehicles tend more toward practicality as opposed to luxury. The main style upgrade is in The Woodland Edition trim level on the RAV4. It consists of an optional two-tone color combination and several interior upgrades. New buyers can opt for Army Green or Ice Cap body paint on this trim. For standard styling, the RAV4 is characterized more by its utility and ruggedness than sophistication. The boxy exterior styling that many of us think of when we picture the RAV4 is mostly gone, having undergone a redesign in 2019 that smoothed out the lines for better aerodynamics. Most RAV4s come with preinstalled roof rails, differentiating their silhouette in the market and creating a distinctly pragmatic appearance despite the RAV4's value.
Value
Both Nissan and Toyota have excellent reputations for reliability and, therefore, value. Whatever you choose, either SUV should retain a high market value and require little maintenance besides the standard routine. Base MSRP pricing hasn’t been announced yet for these SUVs, but we expect that they will fall within a couple of thousand dollars of each other. The RAV4 does come in a choice of a staggering 15 trim levels, likely complicating pricing calculations. Make sure to know what you hope to get before getting your heart set on a RAV4 trim level that is out of your price range. The Rogue, on the other hand, comes in four trim levels: the S, SV, SL, and Platinum. Nissan does not overcomplicate their vehicles, wanting the best and most options included in everything they produce. Regarding standard features, you're getting better value across four trims than you are with piecemeal differences across 15. Each Rogue is tuned for a luxurious experience, so even the base models don’t feel like anything has been stripped away.
Entertainment Technology
This model year, Nissan has added an exciting new feature to the Rogue: It will be the very first vehicle in Nissan’s lineup to include Google as a built-in feature. Google Built-In removes the need to connect a smartphone to access features such as Google Assistant, Google Maps, or even the Google Play store, as the car's infotainment system supports these apps without external connections. This level of connection will enhance the overall driving experience by making it easier to access the content you use to stay on route and entertained while on the road. Google apps will be accessible through the Nissan Rogue’s eight-inch infotainment touchscreen, which goes up to a staggering 12.3-inch upgraded screen at the higher trim levels.
In comparison, the 2024 Toyota RAV4 also features a standard eight-inch infotainment screen for accessing connected navigation and entertainment apps. Still, besides lacking built-in Google features, it can only be upgraded to a 10.5-inch on higher-level trims.
Safety Technology
Safety technology is where the 2024 Nissan Rogue clearly beats out the 2024 Toyota RAV4. That isn’t to say that the RAV4 is unsafe; far from it, Nissan has just put a laser focus on making sure their newest Rogue is best-in-class for safety tech. Nissan has always prided itself on its technology, and that pride hasn't diminished one bit for 2024.
Every Nissan Rogue comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360. This is a suite of advanced safety technology tailored to keep passengers well cared for on the road. It employs cameras, radar, and even sonar to continuously monitor the entire perimeter of the Rogue for a variety of different applications. Six advanced features can actively mitigate risk when the driver enters a potentially dangerous situation. These include:
- Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection: Get visual and audible alerts when a potential pedestrian is in your path. This feature can even actively apply the brakes if it detects the driver hasn’t reacted in enough time. This feature can save a life!
- Blind Spot Warning: With this active blind spot monitoring feature, drivers always know when another vehicle is traveling where you can’t see with a subtle chime. This means you no longer need to fear changing lanes and hoping for the best!
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert: Instead of just hoping the cars behind you see you backing out of your parking spot, this feature informs the driver of approaching cars, even if they’re not in your line of sight.
- Lane Departure Warning: If you’re starting to drift out of your lane, the Lane Departure Warning will alert you so that you can take corrective action. This is especially helpful on those long road trips where you might get sleepy or distracted.
- High Beam Assist: We’ve all been in a situation at night where we’re blinded by another vehicle’s high beams. This feature senses oncoming traffic at night and will automatically turn down your high beams for you, turning them back up when the coast is clear. No more blinding oncoming traffic and putting everyone at risk.
- Rear Automatic Braking: The final feature in this suite constantly watches behind the Rogue to check for stationary objects you might not have seen. It can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision if it detects something.
In comparison, the 2024 Toyota RAV4 comes with Toyota 2.5 Safety Sense. Features include:
- Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Automatic High Beams
- Lane Departure Alert With Steering Assist
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Road Sign Assist
